Frank Herbert, born on October 8, 1920, is a luminary within the world of science fiction literature. Acknowledged far and wide for transmuting the scope of science fiction with his outstanding perception and innovative ideas, his name evokes recognition synonymous with intricate world-building and the forming of deep-rooted socio-political questions.

Raised in Tacoma, Washington, Herbert had a rather unconventional educational journey. He attended the University of Washington but never received a degree, leading him on an eclectic career path that included stints as a radio news commentator, oyster diver, jungle survival instructor, and newspaper editor, before plunging into the labyrinth of literary life. These varied experiences played an undeniably crucial role in shaping his profoundly adaptive and flexible writing skills. The acme accompaniment to Herbert’s written legacy came in 1965 with “Dune.” This epic has since garnered tremendous acclamation, fundamentally changing the landscape of science fiction literature.
