Perception is the process by which humans or intelligent systems interpret sensory information from the environment to understand and make sense of the world around them.
In both humans and machines, perception involves receiving raw sensory data (such as visual, auditory, tactile, or olfactory inputs), processing that data, and forming an understanding or interpretation of it. For intelligent systems, perception often refers to how machines or algorithms interpret sensor data (e.g., images, sounds) to perform tasks like object detection, speech recognition, or navigation.
In the context of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning, perception refers to the ability of machines to perceive and interpret sensory data using algorithms that mimic human sensory processes. It is a foundational aspect of computer vision, speech recognition, robotics, and other AI-driven fields.
