In formal language theory and computer science, a regular grammar is a type of formal grammar that generates regular languages, which are the simplest class of languages that can be recognized by finite automata.
Regular grammars are widely used in compiler design, natural language processing (NLP), and pattern matching tasks, where the goal is to define and recognize syntactic structures that are simple, efficient to process, and computationally feasible.
Regular grammar is part of the Chomsky hierarchy, which classifies formal languages into different levels of complexity. Regular grammar sits at the lowest level of this hierarchy, making it suitable for describing languages that have straightforward, repetitive structures.
